TUO and punctured tubes

Postby william.davey8 » Mon Jan 10, 2022 7:53 pm

Here's some useful information for anyone experiencing the same problem.

I purchased a TUO at the end of December and have since had problems with punctures that occur within about 40 minutes from starting a training session. Sounds ridiculous doesn't it, but yes I have had three punctures in three sessions. I was using a Vittoria training tyre (23-622) and a Conti Race 28 tube. The punctures all occur in the same place - opposite the valve under the tire casing. The punctures seem to be caused by friction between the tire and the tube. Today I changed the tire to an older Continental training tire and I sprinkled talcum powder in the tire casing in the valve area. It seems to have worked as I was able to get through a 2 hour session without another puncture. Baby powder is also likely to work.
