Just got Qubo Digital Smart B+ and I have a few questions after first ride

Postby luked1uk » Thu Jul 19, 2018 11:48 pm

Hello, I just got myself the Elite Qubo Digital Smart B+ and after my first ride and on Zwift which didnt go that well I have a few questions.

1. Is there a good way to configure the trainer without a power meter? I know how fast I can ride on flat roads in specific gears and the power was a little lower than I think it should have been. Even with max power, I couldn't get it to 300watts. Could it be my weight? I am over 110kg.

2. I got 2 punctures while riding (for 1 hour), I am not sure if due to heat (the tyres where pretty warm) or rider weight (I am over 110kg) or bad/old tyres, not sure if you have any ideas on this one? I am on the heavy side so maybe it's just from the pressure I am putting on the tyre.

3. I was using Zwift via my phone, I didn't notice the trainer changing the resistance when I hit the hills in Zwift any ideas? I was using Bluetooth to my iPhone, is it supposed to change the resistance? or does it only do that with Ant+?

I appreciate any help as even though I struggled I can totally see why people love Zwift and want to ride it more!

Thanks,
Luke

Hi Luke

1. Is there a good way to configure the trainer without a power meter? I know how fast I can ride on flat roads in specific gears and the power was a little lower than I think it should have been. Even with max power, I couldn't get it to 300watts. Could it be my weight? I am over 110kg.

The weight is already taken into account by the app, so don't worry about it.
It is possible to calibrate the trainer even without a power meter, but it requires a good skill in "feeling" power on the legs.
In the app, open the advanced settings. In the available options, you'll see P1, P2, P3: these are the calibration points.
Select them and you'll be prompted the three default values.
You can modify them manually and then do again a training to see if the simulation is more realistic.

Please follow these rules:
1. P1 refers to medium/high slopes; P2 to low slopes; P3 to flat road
2. If the trainer brakes too much in that specific situation (power on screen seems too low compared to what you feel on the legs), increase the correspondent calibration point; if it brakes too little (power on screen seems too high), decrease the calibration point
3. change the points by 20-30 (not more!) and then do a training; if the simulation is still not good, repeat

The elastogel roller is very slick, so it's strange. The weight doesn't influence.
The only thing I can suggest is to check that the inner tube is well inflated.

3. I was using Zwift via my phone, I didn't notice the trainer changing the resistance when I hit the hills in Zwift any ideas? I was using Bluetooth to my iPhone, is it supposed to change the resistance? or does it only do that with Ant+?

I confirm you that Zwift supports our bluetooth protocol, so you should feel the resistance change.
Are you sure you've connected to the trainer as a controllable trainer, and not as a speed&cadence sensor?
If it is so, please contact Zwift customer care.

Than you for the fast reply Elite :)

1. I guess my problem with calibration is I have never had or used a power meter so I have no idea how much power I should be feeling. All I know is on flats I can average specific speeds in specific gears on flat roads so I will try and work on tweaking those numbers the way your suggest. :)

2. As or my punctures, I have my tires pressure pretty high because I am so heavy. I will see what I can do about this it might be my tyre or I am getting pinch flats.

3. I am getting an ANT+ usb today and will see what that does and I make sure its set to controller.

Thanks, I will report back.

Just to give an update to this thread.

I put a new tube in, triple checked my tyre and pumped up properly run it on the trainer on Zwift and it was perfect!
Power felt right with default settings, resistant worked a treat and I got the power up to nearly 900 on a full-on sprint.

Very Very happy with my purchase of this trainer! :D

The issue seemed to by my tyre pressure, I had some pump issues so I was running low on PSI which was causing my punctures and low power output due to increases resistance an tyre heat. So if anyone has an issue like this, check you're your tyres are properly pumped up.

Thanks for the help Elite.
