Drivo resiatance

Just purchased a Drivo 1. Have performed the calibration and used it on Rouvy, climbing my normal climb, Passo Pordoi.
Sometimes, when the gradient increases nothing happens for around 10 seconds then the resistance ramps up so much I have to go to 34/28 gear and out of saddle. This is changing from 4.5 to 6.5% gradient so the resistance change is way too much. If I really stomp on the pedals the resistance eventually reduces and I can shift down and pedal normally.
I have emailed Elite but had no reply yet.
Anybody else had similar problems?
