Direto will not work with etraining app no matter what

man I hope someone out there can help me, as the support, or lack there of from Elite has been of no help at all to me. I am cursing every day I try to use my Direto as I just cannot get this thing to work right. It's really not hard to use but for some reason the my etraining app will not recognize the machine, and thus i can't control it. I have done everything Elite recommended, nothing works. every time i try to get it to recognize or i try to configure after riding for ten minutes i just get 'start pedaling...' and it never changes. I use Bluetooth.
the only thing that seems to work is through a third party app like trainer road, and then i can control it. even at this it shows my signal is weak. I'd like not to have to pay a monthly fee just to control the trainer resistance. please help.
