Direto resistance issue with Garmin Edge structured workout

Hi everyone, I’m having a bit of an issue with my Elite Direto XR-T trainer and my Garmin Edge 840.
I usually train in ERG mode using FTP Zones workouts. The trainer adjusts resistance automatically based on target power and cadence, but there seems to be a lag. Even if I hold cadence steady, the resistance doesn’t settle right away.
What happens is: when I start an interval, the trainer feels like it’s close to the right resistance, but then after 20–30 seconds it suddenly tightens up (or lightens down) a lot, even though I haven’t changed cadence.
For example, if I finish a Z1 interval and move into Z3, the trainer begins to get harder immediately. Then, 20–30 seconds later, it suddenly kicks in with a sharp jump and locks into the new resistance.
On short intervals (like 1-minute efforts) this is really frustrating because it almost ruins the workout. Same at high intensity: the sudden jump can be so strong it nearly makes me stall.
This only happens with workouts on the Garmin Edge. If I use an app like MyWhoosh, ERG mode responds almost instantly without these resistance jumps.
So my question is: is this normal for Garmin Edge workouts, or is there a way to make it smoother?
Thanks!

I had the same issue, it's caused by having "Stand alone/plugged in trainer" mode enabled on the Direto.

To fix this you need the My E-Training app installed on preferable an Android phone (there was an issue with iPhones, no idea if this has been fixed).

Open the app and pair the Direto. Open to Settings and scroll down to "Stand alone/plugged in trainer". Open this setting and Disable it. After do this the trainer should work in your Edge, it worked for my 1040.
