Adjusting Rear Derailleur

I have a Elite Direto and would like to adjust the screw that sets cable tension on the rear derailleur, but find that I can't turn the pedals by hand easy enough to be able to do so. I noticed on a youtube video that the presenter was doing so to show how pedaling analyst works. Am I doing something wrong or is there an option to substantially reduce the drag while making such adjustments?
