Map course - resolution of gradient change

Hi
I tried to create a map course from gpx, later by klm, and found it disappointing that the distance for gradient change is quite high - some hundred meters of constant gradient.
However the track I tried to create has ramps up to 20% for 50, 100m lenght only. Naturally, those gradient peaks are smoothed away by low resolution.
Is there an option to create paths with higher resolution?
